Academy graduates connect to world of online learning, social networks
NEW YORK — With the help of new social networks, graduates are increasingly connecting with their peers on college campuses.
And some are finding new ways to stay connected to friends, families and colleagues.
They’re sharing tips, links and videos on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, and learning about the latest trends and news about their campuses.
And as graduates get more used to connecting to each other, the network has evolved into a network of peers, said academy tylers tyler and his wife, Katherine, in a video posted to YouTube.
“We started this social network to give students more social opportunities.
It’s not only to connect, it’s to connect on a deeper level,” Katherine said.
We wanted to give the students an opportunity to connect with each other and share things that they care about, like their families and friends, so they can share that,” he said.
Tyler graduated in September from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., with a bachelor’s degree in education.
He is now an assistant professor at the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he’s working on an online curriculum that teaches students how to use social media to connect and create communities on campuses.
The Academy of Management at the Naval Academy is in a rush to find more college graduates to join the network, said Academy Chief Executive Officer, Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Kelly.
Kelly said that this new online platform will help increase student retention, retention of new faculty, and student engagement in college and beyond.
I think that there’s going to be a surge in participation in the college of education,” he told ABC News.
The new network will allow students to share news, events and information from friends and family.
It will also be a place where students can find resources that are relevant to their learning and career goals, Kelly said.
Kelly said the new social network will help students connect to each others’ profiles, and the Academy is also working to improve the overall experience of college students and faculty.
Students can now upload videos and photos of their lives to their Facebook and Twitter accounts, and they can even post photos and videos of their college experiences.
The Academy is encouraging students to create videos and images of their graduation ceremonies, alumni events, graduation, or other important events on their social networks.
Students can share their graduation videos on Instagram and Vine, for example.
“We’re looking at creating more opportunities for students to get to know each other,” Kelly said, adding that the Academy plans to open up more social networking features in the coming weeks.
There are more than 3 million people who graduated from college in the United States last year, and there are now more than 2.5 million alumni, according to a report by the College Board.
About 2.1 million graduates of American colleges and universities are in college right now, and more than one million students graduate in the fall of each year.
