‘A little bit of everything’: College students learn how to be self-confident after a night of drugs
Students from the University of Massachusetts Amherst have learned how to embrace their inner nerd with the help of a little bit more than the basics.
The campus has partnered with a local technology company to make the experience a little more interactive, as they’re turning students into a “smart, self-aware, and self-actualizing” bunch of people.
The group, dubbed “The Geek Lab,” is a three-day, three-week program led by Professor David Schmitz, and will feature “an interactive, hands-on learning environment designed to provide an environment for students to learn and build the skills to be more confident and socially adept,” according to the university.
It will be offered this summer, with the first students scheduled to begin this past weekend.
“I want to make sure that this is something that we get to the point where students who might have previously been hesitant about participating in these types of programs are now open to it,” Schmitlz said in a statement.
“I think we can make a real difference in their lives.”
The Geek Lab is part of a new “innovative” initiative by MIT that is aimed at increasing the diversity of MIT students, which is in part driven by an increased interest in technology in general.
Last fall, the school announced it was partnering with The Economist to launch the “MIT Smart Hub” , a hub dedicated to helping students become tech-savvy.
That effort, dubbed The Tech Hub, launched earlier this year, with an aim to provide a “virtual workspace” where students can interact with each other online.
The hub, as part of the new effort, has also been expanded to include an app and a series of videos to help students learn more about the tech world and its many facets.
The students at MIT are also taking part in a new project called “Tech Day” , where they’re teaching themselves how to build the apps they need.
This new initiative will also provide students with the tools to learn the tools they need in the real world.
The new program will also help students improve their social skills and be more self-assured.
As part of “Tech day,” students are also learning how to use the social media tools available on the app.
This will help students better understand what social networks are all about, and how to communicate with others.
This is part two of a two-part series on MIT’s “The Tech Hub,” which will focus on how the group plans to build a platform to help make the world more inclusive and inclusive of all students.
